John has over 20 years of management experience in Defence and approaching 10 years’ experience of consulting in Defence and National Security. As a senior RAF Officer, he led specialist logistics and engineering teams of over 250 people and worked in Whitehall, gaining an understanding of wider government processes whilst being responsible for multi-million-pound budgets. Since leaving the RAF, he has worked for major Defence and National Security contractors, including Babcock, Atkins, and Boeing, on projects as diverse as building new training and living accommodation for the Army and future-proofing security assets by upgrading power requirements through to developing future government Cyber Defence policy.
On appointment, John commented, “I am extremely excited to be joining VIMA and hope to become involved in their growth plans, both in terms of increasing staff numbers and offering my experience and knowledge as a mentor and sounding board for younger consultants. I was lucky enough to have several jobs to consider but chose VIMA because their culture and values matched my own more closely than the others.”
John is keen to join VIMA because they support his Rugby team, Bath. Sadly, John’s son and his wife are avid Gloucester supporters, and this season has proved difficult! Away from rugby, John is an ambivalent gardener, he likes anything to do with boats, and he has dabbled with shooting. He regularly succumbs to being a heated underblanket for the family cat Merlin.
