Our work in the Maritime defence sector is a key part of our growing defence market; we work across the entire CADMID procurement cycle, including cutting edge Research and Development in emerging areas such as Advanced Materials, AI/ML, Quantum Computing, Laser Weapons, Autonomy, through to assurance and certification of crewed and uncrewed platforms, and support to defence equipment manufacturers and sustainment organisations.

 

We are seeking a Business Manager/Business Development Manager for the Above Water Battlespace, responsible for developing our rapidly growing R&D and Concept Development business. This role would predominantly be related to work relevant to the surface fleet, but would include Naval Aviation and Commando Forces.

 

What do we look for in a Business Development Manager?

 

We are looking for a self-motivated Business Development Manager who wants to join the Ships Group and help to continue to grow this established sector.  As a Business Development Manager your days will be varied, amongst other things you will contribute to the strategy of the business and own the Sector 5 year plan while influencing the development of our services towards the needs of the market. You will also manage sector campaign planning alongside building, developing and maintaining a network of clients within which you will identify, characterise and capture opportunities to grow the business. Your client facing role would include Dstl, Navy Command Headquarters and the defence supply chain, including primes and Small and Medium Enterprises. As a Frazer-Nash Business Development Manager (we call the role Business Manager internally) you aren't just a salesperson, you hold the relationship with the client and maintain an active role overseeing this relationship while the team are delivering the work you've been awarded.

Requirements

You will ideally have an engineering experience or scientific background and will have applied these skills while working for a consultancy or services provider within a relevant market. A proven business development background is preferred.

More explicitly the successful candidate will have the following attributes;

  • Demonstrable technical/scientific or operational experience in defence;
  • Understanding and recent experience in disruptive and emerging technologies;
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with an established network of contacts within the client community;
  • Experience of market and capture planning, bid strategy development and a demonstrable track record of winning work;
  • Be commercially aware and capable of assisting with bids and projects;
  • The ability to motivate individuals and teams across the business.
